Blue Norther

There is nothing quite like a Blue Norther in Texas. The wind rushes at you from the South, scattering leaves and birds and whats left of the acorns and berries, then the wind abruptly changes and the temperature drops precipitously. Any clouds are dispersed and the wind howls in at you like a banshee from Canada. You immediately forget what the December warmth was like, and you are thrust back into wintertime, with temperatures much more appropriate for two weeks out from Christmas. Each of us needs our own Blue Norther every so often to blow out the cobwebs and clutter, and to bring us fresh air and ideas while clearing out the duskiness of bad days and stale thought. I am sitting by the empty fireplace anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next Norther, with the assurance that it brings, and with the anticipation of the blazing fire that will soon be built in the hearth.
