Yesterday afternoon I made my almost weekly trek out to my place in the country in New Ulm, Texas. I did my usual outdoor chores this morning until it got too hot to stay out in the midday sun. Even and its hottest and driest I love this place. It not only is my sanctuary, its a place where I have had some of the best of times with family and friends over the nineteen lucky years that we have owned it. A lot of people choose to call it a "ranch", but somehow that seems pretentious and mostly its just known as "the farm". The favorite pasttime out here is known as "porch therapy", and as you can imagine it is comprised of spending hours sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, talking, reading and just watching the birds and other wildlife. No matter how rough the week has been or how many seemingly overwhelming problems I am facing at the Hospital or in my life, they all just seem to melt away sitting on the porch. And I am not alone in feeling the benefits of the porch. I literally have friends who will call or write asking for some porch therapy and I gladly and willingly share some space with them on the porch knowing how therapeutic and cleansing it can be.
